Chai french toast

Chai french toast
¾  c whole milk
4 large eggs
1 T sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
6 slices bread, 1-inch-thick (we used a seeded sourdough)
4 ½ T unsalted butter
maple syrup 

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Whisk together DONA masala chai, milk, eggs, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Pour into a sheet pan, then add bread and soak, until bread has absorbed liquid, about 10 minutes.

Heat 1 ½ tablespoon butter in a 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. 

Transfer bread slices to skillet and cook, turning once, until slightly puffed and golden brown. Place on a large baking sheet. Repeat this process until each of the bread slices has been seared, adding 1 ½ tablespoon butter between batches.

Finish in the oven. Toast should be golden and firm to the touch, about 8 minutes. Serve with fresh figs and maple syrup.
