NEW YEAR NEW US | We love kicking off January with healthier versions of our favorite recipes. We have a love affair with french toast, but it is loaded with sugar. This masala chai french toast is made without refined cane sugar. We use DONA masala chai unsweetened with coconut sugar & maple syrup for a spicier & healthier take on a classic.
Low sugar masala chai french toast
4 eggs whisked
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk or milk of choice
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
8-10 slices of bread
1 Tablespoon coconut sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground clove
2-4 Tablespoons butter
Maple Syrup
Directions:
In a bowl whisk the eggs until fully combined and then add in the milk,
chai concentrate, salt and vanilla.
In a separate small bowl combine the sugar, cinnamon, ginger and clove and mix.
Sprinkle and press the sugar spice mixture onto each piece of bread on both sides.
In an 8x11in pan place the bread and pour the liquid ingredients over the bread to soak up.
Heat a pan over medium heat and add the butter. Cook the bread in batches for 4-5 minutes per side depending on thickness of bread. Top with maple syrup.
