We source directly from the Chota Tingrai Tea Estate, a family-run farm known for careful cultivation and traditional growing practices.
Amber Assam is a floral whole leaf black tea. Its malty flavor is shaped by traditional tea practices. After plucking, the leaves are withered to remove moisture and deepen aroma, then rolled and oxidized to develop structure, its signature amber color, and depth of flavor.

An orthodox approach. Assam teas are valued for their malty undertones and rich body — characteristics that are developed using orthodox tea practices used in high grade Assam tea production. Ours is a blend of two orthodox teas, FTGFOP1 (which stands for Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe) and TGFOP1 (Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe). ‘Tippy’ means that the plant’s precious golden tips — young tender leaf buds — are included with the tea leaves. After being plucked, the leaves and buds go through a withering process to remove up to 40% of their moisture and deepen their aromatic compounds before they are rolled into clusters and oxidized. The twisted leaves and tight buds are then dried to stabilize their amber color and signature flavor.
Grown for generations. India’s tea industry began under the oppressive force of British colonial rule, but a small number of Indian tea growers carved out their own space in the trade. Among them, Murleidhor Jalan founded Chota Tingrai as the first tea estate in India to be owned and operated by Indians. Since 1943, the estate has produced tea and is currently helmed by Avantika Jalan, Murleidhor’s great-granddaughter, who has steered the estate toward increased environmental stewardship and building self-sufficient communities.
